Studio portrait of infant, mounted to tan mat. Subject is "Joseph Amon Kling" of York, Pennsylvania, according to inscriptions on the front and reverse of the photo. Date of photo is also written on reverse: "Nov. 7, 1907." Photographer's stamp on front of mat identifies the studio as that of "Bell/6 W. Market St." in York. Joseph was the son of Chauncey and Margaret (Amon) Kling. The 1920 census records his father's occupation as a newspaper reporter. Joseph wed Mary Nellye Holt in 1931 at the United Methodist Church in York. His obituary records that he was a graduate of Penn State University and a veteran of World War II (Pacific Theater). Occupationally, he worked as an insurance salesman, served as Superintendent of Highways for York County, and was a deputy director of maintenance for the state highway commission. He and his wife, who are both buried in Greenmount Cemetery in York, had two sons who survived them. Photo and mat are both clean and in excellent condition. Photograph comes housed in a mylar folder, within an acid-free archival envelope.
