Dating to 1907 puts it in the golden era of tin láminas. It predates the Mexican Revolution of 1910, making it highly collectible. The specific inclusion of the \"evil eye\" (mal de ojo) and the dramatic visual context of vultures (zopilotes) hovering over the sickbed makes the story much more unique and desirable to folk art collectors than standard accident or illness narratives. The graphic layout—featuring a highly defined depiction of Christ on the Cross (Señor de los Rayos) coming out of the clouds and distinct figures—boosts its visual appeal. It shows typical age-related wear, oxidation, and nail hole from being hung in a church sanctuary, which collectors view as authentic patina rather than damage. Excellent antique condition.
Clearly dated 1907 in lower right corner. Location Inscribed: Atolinga (a municipality in the Mexican state of Zacatecas).
English translation of inscription:\"As a consequence of being cursed with the evil eye (mal de ojo), Pascual Rojano became gravely ill—so much so that the vultures (zopilotes) were already hovering around him—prompting his wife to invoke the Lord of the Rays (Señor de los Rayos), who performed the miracle of curing him, for which they give infinite thanks. Atolinga, 1907.\"
