5 3/4” x 4 3/4”
Beautiful pair of antique/vintage Japanese porcelain portrait plaques featuring European-style figural portraits surrounded by detailed hand-painted floral and gilt decoration.
Both pieces are housed in ornate oval metal frames with hanging loops. One plaque is marked “JAPAN” on the reverse in green. The pair includes a portrait of a young gentleman and a female portrait and displays wonderfully together.
These appear to be older Japanese export decorative pieces inspired by European portrait miniatures.
Condition shows age-related wear, including patina/tarnish to the metal frames, surface wear, and aging to the original-style paper/tape backing. Please review all photos carefully for exact condition, markings, construction, and details.
Sold as the matching pair shown.
A beautiful and unusual set for collectors of antique Japanese porcelain, portrait miniatures, hand-painted porcelain, or Victorian-style decorative art.
