Antique oval photo or portrait frame presented in its original-style folding leather travel/display case, dating to approximately the turn of the 20th century.
The removable oval frame has the appearance of an oversized pocket watch, complete with a decorative bow and suspension ring at the top. It is made of unmarked gold-tone / gilt metal. No hallmarks were found, including during inspection of the removable frame components, and the metal is not represented as gold.
The frame is currently fitted with a cream-colored striped insert and has a brown velvet-covered back. No photograph or portrait is included.
The fitted black leather-covered case opens in a triptych form with two folding side panels. The interior features deep burgundy velvet around the frame and red silk/satin-lined side panels. Gold tooled decoration accents the exterior edges and front panels.
The case also has a folding easel support on the back, allowing the piece to be displayed upright when open.
A charming and unusual antique travel portrait frame combining the look of a pocket watch, a fitted presentation case, and a tabletop display frame.
Condition:
Good antique condition with age-related wear throughout. The exterior case shows scuffs, edge and corner wear, small areas of surface loss, and other signs of age. Interior fabrics show some wear, marks, and fading. The metal frame has light surface wear consistent with age. Please review all photographs carefully for condition and details.
