Wrapped entirely in rich, caramel-toned leather, it boasts exquisite hand-stamped, gilt-tooled scrolling vine borders and foliate motifs in classic 18th-century Renaissance revival style.
The box opens via a decorative hinged clasp to reveal a spacious three-tier interior fabric-lined slot organizer, perfect for storing mail, documents, or desk accessories. The top is finished with an ornate, cast brass swing handle.

This piece is structurally functional and displays a wonderful antique patina, but it is being sold as-is with known flaws due to age:
- Missing Base: These boxes originally came with a flared, matching leather base border. It is completely missing from this piece, leaving the structural lower edges and underside exposed.
- Underside Fabric Lift: The dark protective backing fabric on the bottom is coming loose/detached, particularly along the back side and back-right corner. It could easily be glued back down, or the box could serve as a perfect project to have a custom wood or leather base built.
- General Cosmetic Wear: There is minor scuffing, edge wear, and surface aging to the leather consistent with a 100+-year-old object. The brass latch holds well, though the lower lock mechanism plate no longer includes a key.
