Authentic vintage clamp-on hand-crank bench grinder featuring a heavy cast-metal body, traditional screw-type workbench clamp, abrasive sharpening stone, and turned wooden crank handle.
Before electrically powered bench grinders became commonplace, compact hand-operated grinders such as this were practical workshop and farm tools used for sharpening knives, scissors, shears, chisels, and a variety of household and agricultural tools. The integrated clamp allowed the grinder to be securely attached to the edge of a workbench or table and removed when not needed. Similar surviving examples are commonly identified as vintage farm, workshop, and sharpening tools.
This example has no visible manufacturer’s name, model number, or other identifying markings that could be found. Its aged metal finish, traditional star-shaped clamp screw, substantial grinding stone, exposed mechanical construction, and wooden crank grip give it tremendous primitive workshop character.
The grinding assembly does rotate. When the stone itself is turned, the mechanism rotates and moves the crank as expected. Turning it solely by the crank handle currently meets noticeable resistance, indicating that the mechanism would likely benefit from cleaning, lubrication, and general servicing before any attempt at regular use.
An appealing piece for an antique tool collection, farm or workshop display, industrial décor, or restoration project.

Condition
Vintage pre-owned condition with substantial age-related wear throughout. Metal surfaces show oxidation, surface rust, discoloration, finish loss, scratches, and accumulated patina consistent with long-term workshop use and storage. The grinding stone shows age and use but remains mounted.
The mechanism does rotate: manually turning the grinding stone causes the crank and handle to move with it. When attempting to operate the unit solely from the crank handle, however, there is considerable resistance/tension. The mechanism may benefit from cleaning and lubrication to improve movement.
The wooden crank handle remains attached and shows appropriate age and wear. Clamp screw and star-shaped tightening handle are present. No manufacturer markings have been located.
