Antique Gottschalk Halloween postcard, postmarked October 30, 1909, featuring a wonderfully unusual Halloween scene.
The illustration shows a woman standing before a mirror holding a small snake, while an anthropomorphic jack-o’-lantern gentleman appears in the reflection. An owl sits above the mirror and a wall clock points to midnight. The front reads:
“Oct. 31st – May ye hae a’ Luck this Hallowe’en.”
Beautiful decorative typography and an embossed gold-toned border add to the early Halloween appeal.
The card is marked Copyright 1909 D. Hoffman on the front and Trade Mark 2097 / Printed in Germany on the reverse. It was mailed in Chicago with the original one-cent Franklin stamp still present.
Condition shows expected antique wear including edge and corner wear, light surface marks, age toning, and some creasing/wear visible on the reverse. Please review all photos closely for condition.
