Antique Gopher \"Perfecto Extra\" wooden cigar box from Foley Bros. & Kelly of St. Paul, Minnesota, with its full-color interior lithograph still in place. Professionally packed for fragile shipment. Full refund if damaged in transit. A complete, empty early twentieth-century cigar box for tobacciana, advertising and Minnesota history collectors.
The inside lid carries the Gopher lithograph: three upright gophers in a meadow setting, with more gophers along the foreground. The interior rim is printed FOLEY BROS. & KELLY, GOPHER, ST. PAUL, MINN., and the front panel is marked Perfecto Extra. The exterior lid shows the Gopher brand with Foley Bros. & Kelly, St. Paul, Minn., and the ends and sides carry Gopher paper labels with partial losses.
The box is stamped Factory No. 444, 14th Dist. N.Y., and retains its factory notice label and remnants of the original tax stamp. These markings are what set a surviving complete box apart from a loose label: the artwork, the distributor\'s name and the factory identification are all still together on the original wood.
Condition is honest and original, with age staining, edge wear, creasing, small paper losses and loss to the end label. No restoration has been done. The box is empty and is sold as a collectible display piece only; it contains no tobacco. Please review all ten photographs, including the bottom, factory stamp and a ruler shot for scale.
Measurements: approximately 8.5 x 5.25 inches, just under 2.5 inches high. Material: wood with lithographed paper labels. Age: early 20th century. Distributor: Foley Bros. & Kelly, St. Paul, Minnesota. Factory: No. 444, 14th District, New York. Brand: Gopher, Perfecto Extra.
