Rare 1920s Antique Brass & Wood Poker Set – 83 Clay Composition Clover Chips
Originally sold by The G.W. Gauss Co. Jewelers of Toledo, Ohio (a prominent firm in the 1910s-20s), this set represents the peak of "gentleman’s library" decor from the era.
The Case & Carousel:
• Ornate Brass Box: Features deep relief scrollwork around the keyhole and a tiered "wedding cake" lid. The interior lid retains the original green velvet lining and the gold-stamped jeweler's foil label.
• Solid Wood Carousel: A rich, dark-stained wood caddy with a silver-toned metal carry handle and a reinforcing metal side-strap.
• Dimensions: [Insert Dimensions Here, e.g., 6" x 6" x 5"]
The Chips (83 Total):
These are authentic Clay Composition chips, highly prized by collectors for their distinct "clack" and weight. These are NOT modern plastic or wood. Each chip is embossed with the classic "Four-Leaf Clover" (Shamrock) motif.
• White/Cream: 46 Chips
• Red/Burgundy: 19 Chips
• Black: 12 Chips
• Yellow/Gold: 6 Chips
Provenance & Notes:
The G.W. Gauss Co. label dates this set firmly to the early 1900s. While the hinge on the brass box is broken (a common issue with heavy antique brass lids), the set remains a stunning display piece and is fully functional for play.
