Antique Heart-Shaped Convent Work Reliquary – Embroidered Marian Devotional Object – 19th / Early 20th CenturyAn unusual antique heart-shaped textile reliquary, traditionally associated with convent-made devotional craftsmanship (Klosterarbeit).The front is covered in pale green fabric, carefully decorated with tiny white and blue glass beads, silver-toned tubular beads, metallic sequins and ornamental embroidery.At the centre is a charming oval religious print depicting the Virgin Mary and her Immaculate Heart, surrounded by decorative metallic braiding.An exceptional feature is the original-style interior arrangement.The heart-shaped cardboard back opens to reveal a small sewn textile pouch, embroidered with a red cross, containing a single hard object protected within an aged folded paper wrapping.The reverse bears a handwritten label reading “S. Reliqua”, referring to a sacred relic.The red embroidered cross may suggest a connection with devotion to the Passion of Christ. However, the precise nature and identity of the enclosed material have not been established.
