These secret ballot boxes were often referred to as Masonic voting boxes or "blackball" boxes. It was manufactured primarily between the late 19th century and the 1930s. The boxes were used by fraternal organizations and secret societies such as the Freemasons, Odd Fellows, Elks and Knights of Columbus. They were also used by private social clubs and some early church groups. The box relied on a private, anonymous marble voting system (blackball). This box appears to be crafted from quarter-sawn white oak, or standard solid oak. It is in very good antique condition with no apparent damage. It measures 6 1/4 inches wide, 11 1/4 inches deep and is about 8 inches tall at its tallest point. It does not contain its original marbles. It is one of the pretties ones that I have had or seen.
