The Antique Early 20th Century (Circa. 1914) Framed American Landscape Hand-Painted Glass Photograph with Uranium Dye “Florida Sunset” By Artist and Photographer Esmond G. Barnhill (American, 1894–1987). This Striking Atmospheric Landscape Captures the Distinctive Beauty of Early Florida, with Majestic Pine Trees Silhouetted Against A Luminous Sunset Sky and A Quiet Stretch of Water Along the Distant Horizon. Layers of Rose Pink, Lavender, Peach, Turquoise, and Deep Green Create A Remarkably Dreamlike Effect, while the Strong Silhouetted Trees Give the Composition Dramatic Depth and Presence.
Barnhill’s Unusual Process, Combining Photography on Glass with Hand Applied Color, Transforms the Photographic Landscape into A Highly Individual Work of Art. Particularly Fascinating is the Use of Uranium Dye, An Experimental Coloring Material Associated with Barnhill’s Distinctive Early Photographic Technique. The Photograph Shows the Surface Wear, and Scratches, Cracks on the Frame Consistent with Age, In Good Condition.Title: “Florida Sunset”
