Nice antique E.C. Atkins & Company Silver Steel backsaw, made in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA.The highlight of this saw is the large surviving original blade etch. The Atkins branding is still remarkably visible and includes:ATKINS
Silver Steel
E.C. ATKINS AND COMPANY
INDIANAPOLIS, IND.
MADE IN U.S.A.There is also an additional circled factory-etched marking visible on the blade. I have not attempted to assign a specific model number based solely on this marking.Approximately 14” cutting/tooth length. Features a rigid folded steel back, fine teeth and traditional hardwood closed handle with three fasteners. This is a very attractive survivor. The handle is complete with both horns intact and has a nice aged finish. Blade remains straight-looking and retains substantial tooth height. The steel shows expected darkening, staining, scratches, scattered oxidation/pitting and other evidence of age and use.The blade has been lightly cleaned, but the original appearance and factory etching have intentionally been preserved. It has not been aggressively polished or restored.I have not professionally sharpened or tested the saw for cutting performance, so it is being sold primarily as a vintage/collectible woodworking tool.A great piece for an E.C. Atkins collection, antique tool collection, traditional woodworking shop or display.Approx. measurements:
Blade/tooth line: 14”
Overall length: approximately 22”Condition: Antique pre-owned condition with normal wear, patina, oxidation, staining and surface marks. Handle shows age/use wear. Please examine all photographs closely for exact condition.Sold exactly as pictured.
