A handsome nineteenth-century Dickens Christmas book in an elaborate green pictorial cloth binding, richly ornamented with gilt lettering and decorative detailing. An exceptionally appealing antique book for collectors and decorative display.
Charles Dickens.Christmas Stories. London: Chapman & Hall, undated [before December 17, 1879].Illustrated. Original publisher\'s decorated green cloth.
The striking binding is a principal attraction, with its elaborate ornamental design, gilt lettering, and distinctive Victorian character.
The volume contains Dickens\'s Christmas fiction, representing one of the most enduring traditions in nineteenth-century English literature. Its combination of seasonal subject matter, illustration, and richly decorated publisher\'s binding makes it particularly appealing to collectors of Dickens, Victorian illustrated books, and antique decorative bindings.
An especially interesting feature is the contemporary handwritten Award Presentation Inscription dated December 17, 1879.Apparently recording a school-prize award to James C. Clarke, the inscription provides an early provenance and establishes that this undated edition was in circulation by that date.
Bibliographical note:No publication date appears in the book. The approximate date of c.1879 is based on the dated presentation inscription, not a printed publication statement.
An exceptionally stunning and rare nineteenth-century Dickens volume, combining classic Christmas literature, original decorative binding, and documented period provenance.
Condition:Antique condition with age-related wear and imperfections, including the previously documented damaged leaves, which remain attached. Further details are provided in the Condition Description.
