Antique Dietz King Fire Dep’t kerosene lantern with its distinctive hinged protective cage, clear glass globe and embossed Dietz branding.The Dietz King Fire Department lantern was designed as a rugged emergency lantern for use around early firefighting equipment. This example features the large protective frame, upper carrying bail, hinged cage construction, double-wall-style fuel tank and raised DIETZ oval on the front. FIRE DEP’T lettering remains visible around the shoulder of the fuel tank.The lantern has developed a naturally aged surface with extensive dark oxidation, brown rust and greenish patina. I have not cleaned it at all to allow the next owner to keep it the same or restore it as they please.The lantern has not been mechanically tested.
