Antique Currier and Ives Print
The Bombardment and Capture of Fort Fisher, NC
January 15, 1865
Civil War Print 186?
Item Description
Here is a beautiful Currier & Ives Lithograph entitled, "The Bombardment and Capture of Fort Fisher", for your buying consideration. Would make a great gift or keep it for yourself!
Very inspiring rendering here.Beautiful hand colored piece that captures the Union image from the sea and land of this Confederate held fort. Not sure what year this piece was actually made in. Probably right after the Civil War.
Noted as being published by Currier and Ives in the lower left corner, and has 152 Nassau St NY in the lower right corner. Has "836" noted under the detailed description at the bottom of the piece.
There is some browning to the paper. A fleck of something on the description or a repair, not sure which. Some foxing and spotting on the engraving. We see no tears or repairs to the engraving paper. Some loss of the line margin around the image in places.
The engraving is on old paper, not a vintage reproduction. Certainly not a dot matrix piece. We do ask that you be the judge as to the age of this piece before acquiring it. The print has not been examined out of the frame.Older wood frame with dark staining. Probably made of oak. Older backer with a ribbed paper on a board. Old glass over the litho is intact, no cracking or blistering.
The Antique Civil War Lithograph in Frame is 14.75" tall, by 17" across, by 15/16" wide. The Engraving showing thru the frame is 11-11/16" tall, by 14" across.
