Up for sale is a rare, authentic late 19th-century antique cabinet card photograph captured by regional photographer F. V. Sargent of Worcester, Massachusetts.This beautiful, albumen print depicts a classic New England Folk Victorian / Gothic Revival home with striking decorative gingerbread trim along the front porch roofline. Four individuals—seemingly an extended generational family—are pictured sitting together on the front porch. The setting features a wonderful look at early Worcester-area terrain, complete with an unpaved dirt road in the foreground and a rugged, rolling hillside behind the property.The bottom of the card is explicitly stamped: "F. V. Sargent, Photographer, Worcester, Mass."
Given the landscape subject matter, this unique piece may capture the photographer's own family homestead or a highly localized personal commission from the Worcester/Leicester area during the 1870s or 1880s.
