Up for sale is a genuine antique advertising milk bottle cap opener/pick from the Bryant & Chapman Company, "Distributors of Safe Milk," of Hartford, Connecticut. Bryant & Chapman was founded in 1896 and operated as a wholesale and retail milk dealer in the Hartford area through the early-to-mid 20th century, delivering milk in glass bottles sealed with pressed paper caps — tools like this one were given to customers to pry the caps loose.
The opener has a nickel-plated steel blade with a pointed, arrow-shaped pick end used to lift the paper disc cap, and a brass loop handle for grip and leverage. One side of the blade is stamped "BRYANT & CHAPMAN / DISTRIBUTORS OF SAFE MILK," while the reverse is stamped "PLEASE RETURN BOTTLES PROMPTLY" — a nod to the returnable-bottle deposit system dairies used at the time. A small patent notation is stamped near the pick end. The piece measures approximately 4.5 inches in length.

Moderate surface oxidation, tarnish, and light spotted rust are present on the blade, particularly near the pick tip, with darker patina on the brass ring — typical of a piece of this age that saw genuine kitchen use. Stamped lettering on both sides remains crisp and fully legible. No breaks, splits, or structural damage observed.
