This is a fascinating antique Carte de Visite (CDV) photograph featuring a portrait of an older gentleman with a distinguished long white beard, identified by an inscription as William Cullen Bryant. The sepia-toned image is presented in an oval format on a sturdy card mount, characteristic of mid-19th century photography. The handwriting at the top of the photo reads 'Wm. Cullen Bryant', adding a unique historical element. The reverse is a plain card back with some faint pencil markings. This piece is a wonderful addition for collectors of historical photographs, literary figures, or 19th-century Americana.
