Antique Austrian Solid Brass Tabletop Cigarette Box - Heinrich Weiss (H.W.) Vienna
Up for sale is a stunning, authentic antique tabletop cigarette / trinket box, finely crafted in Vienna, Austria during the early 20th century Art Deco / Jugendstil era (circa 1910s–1930s).
This heavy piece is constructed entirely of solid brass, featuring an exquisitely embossed filigree lid with intricate, deep scrollwork. The sides are beautifully detailed with geometric framing patterns and stylized floral/sunburst wheels characteristic of premium, historic Austrian metal craft.
Key Features:
- Rare Maker's Mark:
Features the highly collectible, original stamped-metal "H.W." flag divider insert—the trademark hallmark of the renowned Vienna manufacturer, Heinrich Weiss.
- Authentic Hardwood Interior:
The interior is cleanly lined with its original, protective tight-fitting hardwood (traditionally cedar or mahogany) designed to naturally regulate moisture and protect tobacco.
- Dual Compartments:
The fixed metal flag divider splits the box into two identical sections, originally used to separate two different varieties of cigarette or tobacco blends.
Excellent antique condition with wonderful structural integrity. The rear hinge operates smoothly and fits flush. The protective wood lining remains solid and completely intact. The solid brass exterior has never been aggressively chemically cleaned, preserving a gorgeous, deep, authentic historic patina in the grooves of the ornaments.
Versatile Modern Uses:
While designed as a luxury tabletop cigarette box, its 5.5" x 4.25" footprint makes it exceptionally functional today. It is perfectly sized to store:
- Two standard decks of playing cards (Poker or Bridge size)
- Desk accessories, or business cards
- Jewelry, keys, and daily pocket valet items
