Pair of Armor Bronze Company Scribes “INTER NOS” Bookends by Gregory Seymour Allen. Measurements are 4.25” tall by 3.25” by 3.75”.

Inter nos is a Latin term that translates to "between ourselves" or "among ourselves".

American sculptor Gregory Seymour Allen (1884-1934) was born in Orange, New Jersey, and worked in New York City before moving west to Glendale, California. He is known, primarily, as a sculptor of "historical" themes—usually famous personages—in politics, history or the military. He designed plaques, medallions, medals, and the occasional pair of handsome bookends (or other desktop accessories).

The Armor Bronze company was founded around 1910 as The National Metalizing Company, becoming the Armor Bronze Company around 1920, and produced decorative metal objects using an electroplating (bronze clad) technique. Based in Garwood, New Jersey, and New York City, the company moved to Taunton, Massachusetts, in the mid-1930s, and production ceased around 1948, with the company briefly becoming Armor Bronze and Silver Company in 1946.

Most bronze-clad bookends were made during the Art Deco Period of 1920 to 1935. The Roaring Twenties fostered a thriving business for a handful of US companies, including Armor Bronze, working in bronze-clad and producing a large variety of bookends, figurines, and religious statuettes.
