Unusual antique miniature stuffed 48-star American flag, believed to have been made as a small patriotic pincushion or sewing keepsake.
Measures only approximately 3.2 x 2.2 inches and is stuffed internally, giving the piece the feel of a tiny pillow or pincushion.
The flag displays 48 stars arranged in the standard six rows of eight. The 48-star United States flag became official in 1912 and remained the national flag until 1959.
Construction includes a separately applied blue canton, printed stars and stripes, folded/sewn edges and internal stuffing.
Its extremely small size, stuffed construction and absence of a conventional flag hoist or mounting arrangement make a pincushion or small patriotic sewing keepsake the most likely original purpose.

The exact manufacture date and original owner are unknown. Because the 48-star flag was used through World War I, World War II and the Korean War eras, no specific wartime provenance is claimed.
A charming and unusual piece of early-to-mid 20th-century American patriotic textile folk art and sewing ephemera.
Please see photographs of both sides for exact construction and condition.
