Antique circa 1920s–1930s Southwestern Thunderbird pin featuring a central whirling-log motif, dating from the pre-WWII Fred Harvey era of Southwestern tourist jewelry.
Wonderful early Thunderbird design with stepped wings, deeply worked feather details and the historic whirling-log symbol at the center. The whirling log is an ancient Native American design that predates its later appropriation in Europe and appears frequently on early Navajo/Southwestern jewelry of the Fred Harvey period.
The back retains its early simple pin stem and catch construction, consistent with period brooches. Unmarked as far as I can see. Metal content has not been tested, so I would describe it as silver-colored metal / possibly silver rather than guaranteeing sterling unless you test it.

A particularly graphic early example with a strong combination of two desirable Southwestern motifs — Thunderbird and whirling log — and a great piece for a Fred Harvey-era, Native American jewelry, Southwestern, Route 66 or early American tourist-art collection.
