Up for sale/sale is a highly collectible, authentic matching pair of 121-year-old transit passes from Sioux City, Iowa, dating to 1905.
Issued by local transportation proprietors Foyer & Goodrich, these passes represent the late horse-drawn era when omnibus lines ferried passengers and heavy baggage directly between train depots and hotels. Both cards feature an intricate, red-toned background engraving of a horse-drawn transit carriage.
This 2-Card Antique Ephemera Lot Includes:
• Pass No. 67: Hand-written to Mrs. Fred Rogers (Wife of Fred Rogers).
• Pass No. 6: A rare, low-digit pass issued to the Fred Rogers Family, marked with the Great Northern Ry. (Great Northern Railway) line designation in elegant clerk script.
Condition & Scrapbook Tape Disclosure:
Please view all photos carefully to assess condition. These are printed on original, paper card stock.
• Fronts/Backs: Overall good antique condition. Text and lithograph illustrations remain clear and dark. Shows typical age-toning and surface smudging from authentic handling. One ticket has some paper wear at bottom.
• Scrapbook Removal Notes: These pieces were originally preserved in a vintage scrapbook using old Scotch tape. Pass No. 67 retains a small piece of old, yellowed tape on the front bottom edge (left intact intentionally to avoid tearing the paper fibers or removing print). Both cards show minor tape-related discoloration or light residue along the edges consistent with scrapbook removal.
Dimensions:
Each card measures approximately 4 inches by 2.5 inches.
