Rare Antique c. 1890s New York Naval Militia Gold Bullion Fouled Anchor Uniform Patch
Up for sale is a stunning, authentic piece of American military history: a late 19th-century Spanish-American War era hand-embroidered fouled anchor uniform patch, identified as belonging to the New York Naval Militia (the naval component of the New York National Guard, established in 1891).
This is an exceptional example of period craftsmanship, featuring high-relief (3D padded) gold and silver bullion wire work (purl embroidery). The intricate "feathered" or herringbone texture along the anchor flukes and stock shows the incredible skill of the master tailor.

Condition Report:
Front: In beautiful antique condition. The metallic bullion wire has retained an incredible amount of its original golden luster, with no heavy tarnishing or green oxidation. The structural integrity of the front embroidery remains sharp and intact.
Reverse: Shows the authentic 19th-century yellow cotton backing fabric and heavy structural stabilizer stitching. There is minor age-related fraying to the base textile edges and loose black threads on the fouled rope consistent with careful removal from the uniform.
