Acquire a rare piece of turn-of-the-century commercial history with this authentic Antique 1890s–1910s Traveling Salesman Sample Display Trunk Case. Built for traveling watchmakers, jeweler representatives, or fountain pen merchants, this heavy leatherette-bound trunk opens to reveal a stunning golden quarter-sawn oak interior. I believe it was also used to sell cigars/cigarettes at some point.
Features a unique multi-tier cantilever top display with slotted channels for pocket watches, pens, or ring cards, as well as a drop-front panel opening to multiple purple-velvet-lined oak storage drawers. Complete with original heavy brass corner guards, side latches, and front lock plate.
Item Condition & Authentic Details
This antique salesman sample display trunk is in remarkable, structurally sound survivor condition:
Interior Oak & Cantilever System: Quarter-sawn oak drawers and cantilever tray arms operate smoothly. Original royal purple velvet lining displays authentic age scuffing, minor spots, and soft character wear consistent with 120+ years of age.
Exterior Trunk Shell: Outer black leatherette shell is firm and intact with surface scuffs, edge wear, and corner aging. Brass latches and lock plate appear to function properly.
Note: Top carry handle is absent (mounting hardware loops remain intact).
