Antique 1860s Photo Album w/ Admiral Dot Barnum Sideshow CdV & Tintypes
This small 5” x 3.5” antique leather-bound photo album with brass clasp contains a fascinating collection of mid-19th century photographs, including:
• Carte de Visite of Admiral Dot – Leopold Kahn, the famous Barnum performer, billed as “16 years old, 25 inches high, weighing only 19 pounds.” Printed with his details at the bottom and backmarked by E. & H. T. Anthony & Co., New York (one of the leading photo publishers of the 1860s).
• Mix of Cartes de Visite & Tintypes – Approximately 18 portraits of men, women, and children, many posed with ornate Victorian furniture. Some are tintype portraits.
• Period Album – Embossed leather cover with original working brass clasp. Album shows expected wear from age but remains intact. Pages have foxing/stains, consistent with mid-19th century use.
Historical Significance:
Admiral Dot was one of P.T. Barnum’s most famous attractions, often appearing alongside General Tom Thumb and Lavinia Warren.
