Antique 1800s German 800 Silver High Relief Tavern Box w/ Hidden Maker SignatureAntique German .800 Solid Silver High-Relief Snuff / Pill Box. The lid features an incredibly detailed, deep German repoussé depiction of a classic European tavern genre scene, depicting two 17th-century figures under a festival awning, one raising a glass in a celebratory toast, and the other observing from a rustic table. The scene is framed by an elegant, repeating geometric border.
A wonderful feature of this piece is a tiny maker's mark cleverly integrated directly into the artwork. It is located inside the miniature hanging picture frame on the background wall.
Stamped "800" purity mark, alongside the compulsory Crescent Moon and Imperial Crown.True to its age and authentic manufacturing process, the national moon and crown stamps on the narrow, curved rim were struck very closely together, causing them to slightly merge over time from historic polishing.
In great condition. The hinge is in excellent working order, without issue, and allows the lid to close flush and snap shut tightly. Light patina from time.
