This real photo postcard features French actress and singer who mainly played in English musical theater. She was born in Paris. Her father was a sculptor. She began performing in Paris at the age of fourteen. She performed in the chorus at Moulin Rouge and other Paris theaters and as a chorus girl in Edwardian musical comedies. She had a brief stint on Broadway in 1905 (The Catch of the Season) and then returned to the English stage. She hit the big time in 1913 when she played a leading role in a revue offered by C B Cochran The show was a hit and Delysia was elevated to star status. She performed in many shows and revues until World War II when she devoted her time to entertaining allied troops. During her career, she played in a number of risque roles where she came to the attention of government censors. One review by \"The Morning Post\" stated \"Never can an actress have worn so negligible a dress\". Delysia appeared in three Broadway shows between 1905 and 1924. When the World War II ended, Delysia retired from the stage and lived the life of a French diplomat\'s wife. Delysia also appeared in films. In 1916 she made her film debut in \"She\". This vintage postcard was published by Samuels, Strand and Piccadilly. The firm was based in London. The card was part of the Arcadian Series (No.17-21). Delysia\'s postcard photograph was taken by the Foulsham & Banfield studio. The postcard is in good condition (see scans).
