A catalogue from 1889 describes this brass opera theater glasses with inlaid with dark mother-of-pearl, in the original leather case with the gold stamped A. Meissner,Optiker & Mechaniker, Friedrichsttrasse 71 Berlin
They were not nearly a small Berlin optician selling in Porter theater glasses. The firm was established precision instrument maker and dealer active by at least the 1860s and still prominent around 1900. The science museum in London has a hemispherical sundial dated 1862 from them. A Meissner appears in the official German collective catalog for the 1900 Paris exposition universelle, the actual exhibition entry is fascinating. It lists Amessier under surveying mining and travel instruments. It was a firm capable of serious scientific instrumentation.
These glasses date approximately to 1885 the fitted case carrying the ornate gold label, belongs perfectly within that documented period.
Natural, dark mother of pearl souvenirs have no damage.
