From the introduction, p. 11: On the 31st of May, 1945, General Headquarters, Southwest Pacific Area, directed the Eighth Army to assume control of the entire Luzon Operation as of the 1st of July. With the exception of those units which were to be utilized by the Sixth Army in its proposed assault against Kyushu, all units were to be placed under the Eighth.
