About Proof Coins…
United States Mint proof coins are struck on specially prepared planchets (coin blanks). Each coin is struck multiple times with higher force to bring out every aspect of the devices (images) and legends (letters & numbers) with needle sharp clarity. The minting process results in beautifully frosted devices and legends on highly polished mirror bright fields (flat surface areas), creating a breathtaking deep cameo appearance.
About Modern Commemorative Coins…
Congress authorizes commemorative coins that celebrate and honor American people, places, events, and institutions. Although these coins are legal tender, they are not minted for general circulation. Each commemorative coin is produced by the United States Mint in limited quantity and is only available for a limited time.
As well as commemorating important aspects of American history and culture, these coins help raise money for important causes. Since the modern commemorative coin program began in 1982, the U.S. Mint has raised more than $500 million to help build new museums, maintain national monuments like the Vietnam War Memorial, preserve historical sites like George Washington's home, support various Olympic programs, and much more.
Packaging:
Each coin is encapsulated and presented in a United States Mint velvet & satin gift case protected by an outer box of matching design.
