This is a vintage watertight Marine First Aid “Pac-Kit” (model/No. 6003) made by The Pac-Kit Safety Equipment Co., Inc. 
The outer plastic case is labeled “Marine FIRST-AID KIT” with instructions to open by lifting the thumbnail and close by pressing together full length. The company address on the front label is Greenwich, Conn.; the instruction sheet inside lists Norwalk, Connecticut 06850. A number visible on the lid (50237) and the overall style/contents are consistent with kits from roughly the late 1970s–1980s era (your “1987” dating fits well). 
Company background
Pac-Kit pioneered the “unitized” (individually packaged, single-use unit-dose) first-aid system in the early 20th century, originally tied to Burroughs Wellcome. After WWII the industrial first-aid side became independent as Pac-Kit Safety Equipment Co. It specialized in industrial, safety, transportation, and marine kits, expanded significantly after OSHA requirements in the 1970s, and was based in the Norwalk/Greenwich, CT area. The company was acquired by Acme United in 2011; production later moved.

Typical of period marine/boat kits, organized as sealed “units”:
• 4” non-adherent bandage compress (Unit 2-004)
• Four 2” non-adherent bandage compresses (Unit 2-006)
• Plastic non-adherent adhesive bandages (1” and similar; Units 1-002)
• Four 3” × 3” 12-ply sterilized gauze compresses (Unit 3-001)
• Ammonia inhalants (Unit 9-001)
• Foille ointment (burn treatment; two tubes)
• Merthiolate swabs (Unit 10-002)
• Tourniquet + forceps + scissors (Unit 17-004)
• Adhesive plaster/tape (Unit 8-001)
• Aspirin-phenacetin-caffeine (APC) compound tablets (Unit A18P / similar)
The lid also lists a contents/directions chart matching these units and notes basic first-aid uses (covering wounds of different sizes, burns, fainting/shock, sterilizing wounds, controlling arterial bleeding, removing splinters, sprains, headaches/colds/minor aches). It includes a period instruction sheet with diagrams for rescue breathing/insufflation.
Notes on the kit and contents
• The hard plastic case was designed to be watertight for boat/marine use.
• Many items reflect 1970s–1980s standards. Some are now obsolete or restricted: phenacetin (in the APC tablets) was withdrawn due to toxicity concerns; Merthiolate (thimerosal) is far less common; ammonia inhalants are rarely recommended today.
• Foille was (and still has modern versions of) a benzocaine-based medicated ointment used for minor burns, cuts, etc.
• These kits are now collectible as vintage industrial/marine first-aid items. The sealed units and complete instruction sheet make this a nice surviving example.
It is a classic example of a mid-to-late 20th-century unitized marine first-aid kit from a well-known American maker. The contents are period-correct but should not be relied on for actual medical use today due to age, potential degradation, and changes in recommended treatments.
