USS Patterson, Destroyer Built at Avondale Shipyards. A six-day visit will start Wednesday for the destroyer escort USS Patterson. The Patterson, third in a series of 27 destroyer escorts being built at Avondale Shipyards, is a multi-purpose ship armed with guns, anti-submarine rockets, torpedoes and helicopters. She carries a crew of 225 officers and men. The vessel is named for Commodore Daniel Todd Patterson, hero of the Battle of New Orleans. The Patterson will dock at the Poydras Street Wharf. Public visiting hours will be 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Photo measures 10 x 8.25 inches. Photo is dated 04-21-1971. PHOTO FRONT
