History:For over 20 years Porsche came to Le Mans without winning the major endurance race. So in 1970, Porsche wanted to take no chances. The "Porsche 917 Gulf number 20" refers to chassis 917-022, a specific 1969 Porsche 917K that is famous for being the "hero car" driven by Steve McQueen in the 1971 film Le Mans. It is one of the most iconic race cars, instantly recognizable by its Gulf Oil blue and orange livery. The car was purchased new by McQueen's production company and was used for many of the film's race sequences.
