This week I'm offering a number of old non-sport cards from various vintage sets. In the early Fifties, Topps attempted a broad-ranging historical set, and they hit on the idea of organizing it along the lines of a series of newspaper stories. Thus was born the "Scoop" issue, in which big moments in history were presented as news stories. The front of each card would feature a nice illustration of the event, and the back was a summary written as a newspaper story. When first issued, the front of each card was hidden by a black film that had to be rubbed off with a coin, a gimmick Topps used several times over the years. All in all, this set remains popular and it offers some good lessons in history! Here I have a nice starter lot of 26 different cards from this set, including #1, 3, 4, 6-8, 10, 14, 24, 25, 35, 37, 44, 49, 50, 57, 58, 62, 66, 69, 93, 95, 107, 145, 149 and 152. The cards show corner wear, many have creases or surface wear or other imperfections (see scans for condition). Still, not too bad for cards that are over seventy years old. This would be a terrific addition to any collection!Shipping will be combined for multiple purchases.
