Original circa 1954 St. Louis Street and Health Guide distributed by the Central Medical Office, 119 N. 7th Street, St. Louis, Missouri.
This small pocket guide combines an extensive St. Louis street directory and transportation information with period medical advertising and health advice. Interior pages include advertisements and discussions of fluoroscopic X-ray examinations, blood tests, stomach troubles, nervous diseases, chronic ailments and a particularly fascinating period chart titled “How To Tell Unhealthy From Healthy Urine.”
The reverse cover contains calendars for 1954 and 1955, helping firmly date the guide to the mid-1950s.
A wonderfully unusual piece of St. Louis history with crossover appeal for collectors of Missouri ephemera, vintage city directories, transportation memorabilia, medical advertising and mid-century Americana.
Shows considerable age-related wear including staining, discoloration, creasing, edge/corner wear, small tears and white paint-like spots on the back cover. Binding remains intact enough to be handled and photographed. Please review all photos carefully for condition.
