1953 Eisenhower White House Admission Card Mrs Mason C Prichard May 14
Original 1953 White House admission card issued to Mrs. Mason C. Prichard (Ann Martin Prichard) during the Eisenhower administration.
The personalized card authorized admission through the East Entrance of the White House at 12:30 p.m. on May 14, 1953. It is marked “NOT TRANSFERABLE” and bears a purple “ADMITTED TO THE WHITE HOUSE” stamp, indicating that the card was presented and used for admission.
The upper-left corner has a handwritten “LR” notation. Similar surviving White House admission cards have handwritten letter notations in the same location; the specific meaning of this notation is unknown.
Provenance: Ann Martin Prichard was the wife of Col. Mason Carter Prichard (1899–1981), a longtime U.S. Army Corps of Engineers civilian engineer and U.S. Army Reserve officer who served on active duty during World War II and received the Legion of Merit. His career and family are documented in his 1981 Washington Post obituary. This card was acquired directly at the estate sale of the Prichards' daughter.
The specific purpose of Mrs. Prichard's May 14, 1953 White House visit is unknown. No claim is made that she personally met President or Mrs. Eisenhower.
Condition: Original vintage condition with visible age and handling wear. There is toning/soiling, particularly along the upper and left portions of the card, along with scattered spots and marks and minor edge/corner wear. The handwritten information, engraved White House design, and admission stamp remain clearly visible. Reverse has light age/handling marks. Please examine all photographs carefully for condition.
An interesting piece of Eisenhower-era White House ephemera with documented family provenance.
