1951 Early 1952 DeSoto Hood Ornament Lighted Hernando Custom Deluxe S15 OEM
Description
Offered is anoriginal vintage 1951–early 1952 DeSoto lighted hood ornamentfeaturing the distinctiveHernando de Soto / Conquistador headand long streamlined chrome spear.
This is the dramatic early-1950s DeSoto design used with theS-15 Custom and Deluxe series. Period application information supports the 1951–1952 S-15 Custom/Deluxe fitment, although later production changes make it advisable to verify the ornament and mounting configuration against your individual vehicle before purchasing.
The centerpiece is the translucent amber-colored Hernando face, designed as part of DeSoto's illuminated hood-ornament treatment. The combination of the sculpted conquistador portrait, sweeping chrome body and extremely long tapered rear section makes this one of DeSoto's most recognizable postwar hood ornaments.
CONDITION
Original unrestored vintage condition.
As clearly shown in the photographs, the chrome hasconsiderable age-related pitting, spotting, oxidation, scratches and plating deterioration, particularly around the wider forward portion of the ornament. The long spear remains visually impressive and appears substantially intact.
The translucent Hernando insert is present but displayssignificant internal crazing/cracking and age deterioration. Please examine the close-up photographs carefully; these are an important part of the condition description.
The ornament hasnot been restored or replated.
The black display stand shown in the photographs isNOT includedand is used only for photography.
Despite the age-related deterioration, this is a very attractive original piece for restoration, display, or completion of a period DeSoto.
