Offered together as ONE LOT OF FOUR vintage British Royal Family souvenir books, dating from the fascinating period surrounding the transition from the reign of King George VI to Queen Elizabeth II.
Rather than being later retrospective publications, these are period royal souvenirs produced during the early years of the modern Royal Family, including publications from when Elizabeth was still Princess Elizabeth and Prince Charles and Princess Anne were very young children.
The collection includes:
The Historic Story of The Coronation – Ceremony and Ritual
Text by Lawrence E. Tanner, M.V.O., V.P.S.A., Keeper of the Muniments, Westminster Abbey, with an introduction by The Very Reverend Alan C. Don, K.C.V.O., D.D., Dean of Westminster. A fascinating illustrated account of the history, spiritual significance, regalia, ceremony and traditions associated with the British Coronation, issued during the period surrounding the 1953 Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.
The First Golden Gift Book of Prince Charles and Princess Anne
Story and pictures by Anne Packard. A charming period publication featuring the young children of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip. The cover describes it as “An Enchanting Record of Princess Elizabeth\'s Children.” This wording is particularly interesting because the publication dates from the period before Princess Elizabeth became Queen in February 1952.
The Unforgettable Story of Britain\'s Royal Heritage
By Margaret Saville, published by Pitkins, London. An extensively illustrated look at Britain\'s Royal Family and royal heritage, including Queen Elizabeth II and earlier generations of the monarchy.
H.R.H. The Duke of Edinburgh, K.G.
A period publication devoted to Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. The book notes that it was produced with the Duke\'s consent and that proceeds from its sale were to be donated to the National Playing Fields Association, of which His Royal Highness was President.
A Fascinating Snapshot of Royal History
What makes this four-book group especially appealing is how well the publications complement one another.
Together they document a pivotal period in British royal history:
Prince Philip as the young Duke of Edinburgh • Prince Charles and Princess Anne as young children • Princess Elizabeth\'s transition to Queen Elizabeth II • Britain\'s royal heritage • The ancient traditions and ceremony surrounding the 1953 Coronation
For a collector, the group provides a wonderful contemporary glimpse into how the Royal Family was presented to the British public during the beginning of what became the extraordinarily long Elizabethan era.
Photographs & Illustrations
These publications contain numerous period images of the Royal Family, royal ceremonies, regalia and historic events.
The photographic images within the books are publisher-printed photographic reproductions, rather than individually developed or tipped-in original photographs. This was the normal production method for these illustrated royal souvenir publications.
Subjects pictured throughout the collection include Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip, Prince Charles, Princess Anne, King George VI, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, Princess Margaret, members of earlier generations of the Royal Family, royal regalia and Coronation scenes.
Collector Appeal
An attractive collection for collectors of:
Queen Elizabeth II memorabilia • King Charles III memorabilia • Prince Philip • Princess Anne • 1953 Coronation memorabilia • British Royal Family • Royal ephemera • British history • Monarchy collectibles • Vintage Pitkin publications
The fact that these four publications have remained together makes this a particularly nice ready-made collection representing the Royal Family during one of the most historically significant periods of the 20th-century British monarchy.
