Rare 1940s John Robert Powers beauty and modeling-school set consisting of an original John Robert Powers Home Course, copyrighted 1943, together with a coordinating glass powder box or vanity jar.
The round powder box has a clear, vertically ribbed glass base and a fitted silver-tone metal lid. The lid is decorated with streamlined horizontal lines and the engraved-style John Robert Powers signature. The box is empty and could be used for loose powder, jewelry, trinkets, or vanity display.
The Home Course was issued by the Linden Hill Corporation and contains lessons devoted to beauty, vitality, grooming, self-improvement, diet, exercise, makeup, skin and hair care, voice, style, carriage, walking, poise, and “The Etiquette of Charm.” It offers a fascinating glimpse into the ideals taught by the famous John Robert Powers modeling school during the 1940s.
Please note that the signatures appearing on the course pages appear to be part of the original printing and are not represented as hand-signed autographs.
Both pieces show age-related wear. The metal lid has surface scratches, spotting, discoloration, and wear to the finish. The glass has minor expected wear but appears free of obvious cracks or large chips based on inspection. The course pages have toning, edge wear, small tears or creases, and wear around the punched binding holes. Please review all photographs carefully.
