This exceptional pair of 1943 postal cards features original, hand-drawn and hand-colored illustrations created on blank U.S. government-issued 1¢ Jefferson postal stationery. Both cards depict whimsical goat-themed cartoons, drawn in expressive pen and finished with soft, precise color work.
One scene shows two weary goats in the Texas scrub with the caption “Announcing our arrival at Dallas, Tex – 7-2-43”; the second features a milk bucket being rejected with the typewritten speech: “Oh yeah!!! I am not that kind of a Goat”.
Likely produced during a wartime stateside deployment or military relocation, these cards combine humor, originality, and wartime context in a deeply personal form of mail art.
The use of postal stationery as a canvas, along with the incorporation of typed captions, reflects a creative outlet amid mid-20th century military or travel life. Surviving examples of this quality and uniqueness are rare.
