Wonderful set of 8 hand-colored mid-century furniture presentation prints, each approx. 7.5\" × 11\", produced for Contract Sales Inc. in the 1940s. These sheets were used in designer and client binders for commercial interiors, hotels, and institutional furnishing proposals.
Each piece began as a printed black-line sketch, then was hand-colored using watercolor and early spirit-based dyes (some areas show the typical slight glossy / reflective finish found in period presentation work). Borders are hand-ruled, and most sheets retain their original three-ring punch holes from designer studio binders.

Why These Matter
Hand-colored contract furniture sheets rarely survive intact. Most were discarded once final catalogs were printed. These examples are ideal for decorators, furniture historians, and collectors — and are excellent candidates for framing.
? MAKER IDENTIFICATION
All sheets are marked Contract Sales Inc., which identifies the renderer.
This was a mid-century contract/interior procurement company operating in New York, frequently working with hotels, banks, and office designers. They supplied design drawings and specifications, working alongside actual furniture manufacturers in Grand Rapids, North Carolina, and the Northeast.
These sheets were likely prepared either:
- By in-house design staff, or
- By freelance furniture illustrators contracted by the firm.
- They were presentation-grade working artwork, not mass-market brochures.
PROVENANCE: This artwork comes from a larger mid-century furniture design and manufacturer archive, which includes original maker photographs, catalog prints, hand-colored drawings, and internal reference material from several high-end furniture companies and contract houses of the 1930s–1950s. Other pieces from this same archive are listed separately unless otherwise sold.
