Main description
1934 Château Margaux Premier Grand Cru Classé Empty Wine Bottle
An exceptional vintage wine collectible: an empty bottle of 1934 Château Margaux, one of the great First Growth estates of Bordeaux.
The original paper label is still substantially intact and clearly displays:
CHÂTEAU-MARGAUX
GRAND VIN
1934
PREMIER GRAND CRU CLASSÉ
FRANCE
The historic château illustration remains clearly visible, together with the diagonal red inscription across the label.
The bottle is made of very dark green glass and has a particularly deep punt in the base. Portions of the dark neck covering and its red band also remain.
1934 is a particularly notable Château Margaux vintage. Château Margaux's own historical vintage information identifies 1934 as the outstanding vintage of the 1930s, making a surviving bottle and label from that year particularly interesting as wine memorabilia.
I personally purchased this bottle of 1934 Château Margaux at the Surf & Sand in Laguna Beach, California, in 1989. The wine was served and consumed at dinner, after which I retained the empty bottle as a keepsake.
The bottle has remained in my possession since that evening. At the time, I paid many thousands of dollars for the wine at the restaurant.
Its history in my possession therefore goes back approximately 37 years, to the evening when the wine itself was consumed.
