Beautiful cachet envelope postmarked from Kitty Hawk, North Carolina on December 17, 1928 with airmail stamps and design to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the first flight by the Wright Brothers (1903, Orville and Wilbur Wright). The cover (signed at different times) is autographed by Captain B. B. Lipsner (Benjamin Berl Lipsner) a former military officer who served as the first supervisor of the Post Office Department’s airmail service (1918) often referred to as the “father of commercial aviation”; Lt. James C. Edgerton who flew from Philadelphia to Washington, D.C. on the first day of scheduled Air Mail service in the United States on May 15, 1918 who inscribed “Pilot, 1st Air Maul 1918,” and by Bo Shank who inscribed “The only original Post Office Air Mail Pilot living (1918).”
Among attendees at the celebration held in Washington, D.C. on December 17, 1928 as part of the International Civil Aeronautics Conference, was Amelia Earhart.
