Offering an ORIGINAL 1926 THE NEBRASKA ALUMNUS: OFFICIAL PUBLICATION OF THE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION OF THE UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA.This paper booklet measures approximately 9 7/8\" x 6 5/8\" x 1/16\" and contains 56 pages (361-416).It\'s filled with information and illustrations about the plans for the future LINCOLN CITY CAMPUS.In October 1926, the Lincoln City Campus of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (then commonly referred to as Nebraska U) was experiencing a dynamic era of \"Roaring \'20s\" expansion, physical modernization, and athletic maturity. Having long outgrown its original four-block campus layout, the university was actively transitioning into a multi-campus, prominent Midwestern research institution. The university was actively executing a master plan created by GEORGE SEYMOUR in 1925, which focused on creating monumental vistas, malls, and classical red-brick-and-limestone design schemes. The original campus footprint (bounded by 10th, 12th, R, and T Streets) was no longer enough. Major construction had pushed boundaries outward. In 1926, the campus completed Richards Hall (initially the Mechanical Engineering building). Alongside Chase Hall (1920) on East Campus, Richards Hall stood as a testament to the university\'s post-WWI industrial and technical educational boom.In October 1926, the landmark Morrill Hall—destined to become the home of the University of Nebraska State Museum—was actively under construction.
The social and physical landscape of October 1926 was heavily anchored by sports and campus culture.Football Saturdays were already a massive part of Lincoln culture. The iconic Memorial Stadium had opened just three years prior in 1923, and the University Coliseum had recently been completed to host indoor sports, rallies, and commencements.CORNHUSKER FOOTBALL dominates pages 393-397 detailing the opening 21-0 win against DRAKE and the 14-7 home defeat by MISSOURI - see articles and photos. The campus visit by GENERAL PERSHING and VICE PRESIDENT DAWES are covered in PHOTOS and an article on pages 370-371.CONDITION: Paper covers show typical light wear for a 100 year-old booklet, but covers are intact; there\'s a small (1/4\") vertical tear in the top margin of front cover that does not affect pages; pages are clean and two-staple binding is tight; photos and graphics are strong - see scans.
