Today we are pleased to offer Stromberg Carburetors: Price List of Parts and Instruction Sheets, Type “OX”, issued by Stromberg Motor Devices Co., Chicago, Illinois. The printer's line reads “Form A 198 25M 7-24,” dating this printing to July 1924. This illustrated manufacturer's service and parts leaflet is a single folded sheet forming four unnumbered pages, without separate wrappers, and it also has an additional vertical storage fold.
The interior pairs a detailed parts price list with a full-page plate of individually numbered components. The list identifies the OX-2 size as 1¼ inches and quotes a period carburetor price of $32.50, followed by part numbers and individual prices for the float, float chamber, jets, venturi tubes, economizer, needle valves, choke and throttle fittings, gaskets, screws, and related hardware. The rear panel supplies a letter-keyed illustration of the assembled carburetor with instructions for idling and high-speed adjustments, choke control, seasonal air adjustment, float level, and troubleshooting. The front includes ordering directions, the manufacturer's period guarantee, a sample identification badge, and branch addresses.
The instructions explain the Type OX's plain-tube design and its intended use with low-grade gasoline, identifying the accelerating well and economizer as important operating features. References to hand cranking, electric starting, Motometer readings, and cold-weather fuel behavior place the leaflet directly in the motoring practices of its time. The Chicago headquarters and eight listed branches also document the company's service network from New York and Boston to the Pacific Coast.
The outer panels are age-toned, with slightly darker edges, scattered small spots, surface rubbing, softened corners, and minor edge irregularities. A pronounced vertical storage crease crosses both the title and instruction panels, accompanied by lesser wrinkles and gentle rippling of the paper. The rear panel has considerably heavier shop soiling than the front: dark streaks and smudges occur near the upper-left margin, through the lower central area, and along the bottom and lower-right margins, with a separate small brown mark near the upper-right edge. The large front title remains ship-shape and easy to read.
The inside spread retains a cream tone with light marginal discoloration, occasional small handling marks, and several vertical fold lines. Creasing produces ridges through the price table and component illustration, but the parts list, printed prices, and illustration labels remain legible. The rear instruction text has more ingrained grime and darkening, including marks that extend into portions of the lower text rather than staying entirely in the margins. There is a slight musty odor from shop use and early exposure to moisture. The detailed parts plate is the cream of the contents.
Make sure to see the photos above for complete details.
4 unnumbered pages; illustrated with a full-page numbered parts plate, a letter-keyed carburetor diagram, and a small model-and-serial-number illustration.
Measures approximately 7 inches tall by 9 inches wide.
