Rare, original field camouflaged US WW1 helmet.
The Shell: Pressed by the Columbian Enameling & Stamping Co. (ZJ256) in the late summer/early fall 1918.
Liner is marked R H L(?) 07-18.
The Camouflage Scheme: In the summer and fall of 1918, many American units (particularly the 26th, 28th, 42nd, and 77th Divisions) hand-painted their helmets right before or during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive. They used dull, non-reflective tones-typically ochre/yellow, forest green, and reddish-brown-separated by dark black or brown segmented lines. You can still see patches of that yellow-ochre and darker green showing through the patina. Small pebbles and dirt are still attached to the field done paint job.
Liner is in the helmet, but loosely attached. One side of chin- strap is missing.
Don’t miss this one! This is a very rare example of an original camo painted us ww1 helmet that, no doubt saw combat in the final months of ww1.
