Antique delegate/convention badge from the 1908 Republican National Convention held at the Chicago Coliseum beginning June 16, 1908.
Features an ornate gilt-tone pin-back hanger with “NEW YORK” insert, original silk/satin ribbon, and a large medallion depicting the New York State coat of arms with “EXCELSIOR” and “NEW YORK.” The surviving ribbon is marked “JUNE 16, 1908” along the bottom.
The reverse retains the pin mechanism on the upper hanger.
This is an approximately 118-year-old original piece and the textile portion is extremely fragile. Ribbon has extensive splitting, fraying, deterioration, discoloration and losses as clearly shown in the photographs. Metal components exhibit age-related wear, oxidation/patina and finish loss. New York insert and state-seal medallion display well. Please examine all photographs carefully for exact condition.
An interesting original piece of early American political memorabilia associated with the 1908 Republican National Convention, where William Howard Taft received the Republican presidential nomination.
