Group of three original antique photographs documenting members of the Petersen/Peterson family, including a wonderful circa 1907 general store interior photograph and two Minneapolis cabinet cards.
The large mounted photograph depicts Margaret (Margrette) Petersen behind the counter of an early general store. The original handwritten identification on the mount identifies her as “Grandmother Petersen (Cora Tomlinson’s Mother).” Family information on the reverse records Margaret as born September 8, 1861 in Denmark, died October 21, 1918, and mother of Cora Dorthea Petersen.
The store interior is filled with period merchandise, advertising, glass display cases and other details. Visible advertising includes an Ives Ice Cream sign marked Minneapolis. A calendar visible inside the store dates the scene to approximately 1907.
Also included are two original cabinet photographs with extensive handwritten family information:
• Anna Else Petersen — born October 1859 in Vejle, Denmark; died August 4, 1938. The reverse identifies her as the older sister of Margaret (Margrette) Petersen.
• Arthur William Peterson — born July 24, 1893; died September 29, 1973.
• James Morris Peterson — born August 18, 1891; died April 29, 1963.
The two boys are identified on the reverse as first cousins of Cora Dorthea Petersen and sons of Lena and James Peterson.
The cabinet cards were produced by Minneapolis photographers S.E. Olson Co. and Hirsch Bros., 1313 Washington Ave. So., Minneapolis.
An unusually well-documented group with strong interest for collectors of antique photography, genealogy, Danish-American history, Minneapolis history and early American commercial/store imagery.
Measurements:
• Large mounted store photograph: approximately 8 x 10 inches overall
• Cabinet cards: approximately 6.5 x 4.25 inches each
